The World's
Reefs
Issues with our reefs.
Coral Reefs are home to around 25% of marine life on the planet and yet they only cover less than 1 percent of the ocean globally. Coral reefs are an integral part of coastal communities, providing protection from storms and income through fishing and tourism. It is estimated that 1 billion people have some dependance on coral reefs for food and income. Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the largest single structure built by living organisms, can be seen from space and has the highest coral diversity in the world.
